Mustangs Fall to Lampasas on Last Play of Game

A long run by Corey Richardson sets up the Mustangs deep in Lampasas territory. L.D. Williams scores on the next play.

Lampasas scored on the last play of the game to take a 27-26 win over the Mustangs who failed on three extra point attempts.  Quarterback Reginald  Middleton scored Manor’s  first two touchdowns on runs of 8 and 9 yards.  L.D. Williams scored on an eight yard run in the third and Corey Richardson ran 16 yards for the final touchdown.  Balla Djiba scored on a run for the two point conversion following Richardson’s touchdown.

Attention All Parents of 8th Graders

Attention all parents of Manor 8th grade students for school year 2010-2011.  Currently there is a parent organized committee in place that would like your help as we plan our 8th graders graduation/celebration.  The event is scheduled to be held Saturday, May 21, 2011.   We have started regular parent organzied meetings and fundraising for this event but still need the help of ALL parents to make this a success.

Council Member Resigns

Manor City Council Member Shelli Lyons-Egger submitted her resignation from the Place 3 position on the council at last week’s meeting.

The Eggers recently sold their Greenbury home and were to be out of that house this week.   They intend to build a new home in the area but have not finalized those plans.  Shelli has served on the council since May 2007.

Tower Lane Resident Bitten by Snake

Chris Martinez was hospitalized for snakebite at UMC-Brackenridge after receiving four puncture wounds on his foot while trying to replace the cover on the family hot tub at the family residence on Tower Road.  He began receiving the first of five doses of anti-venom last Sunday.

Capital Metro Meeting on Ethanol Transfers

A public meeting will be held on Wednesday August 11, 2010 by the Capital Metro Transportation Authority board to discuss  an ethanol transfer facitity along Decker Lane and apparently the transportation of ethanol over the “Green Line” which runs through Manor.  It is unknown at this point whether the ethanol will be transferred to the proposed Decker Lane site through Manor or via Austin.

Neither the City of Manor nor the Messenger were aware of this meeting until County Commissioner Ron Davis  forwarded an email to Manor’s City Manager after  last week’s Messenger had gone on sale.

The Capital Metro Agenda list only one item for the session– “proposed ethanol receipt siding project.”

Commissioner Davis’ announcement states, “Capital Metro Transportation Authority (CMTA) Board is hosting a public meeting to discuss a proposed Project-an ethanol transfer facility along Decker Lane on CMTA’s Rail “Green Line.”  The public meeting will be an opportunity for concerned citizens, churches, schools, and nearby residents to learn more about this proposed project.”

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Gus Garcia Middle School at 7414 Johnny Morris Road.

Office Closed July 1-7

The Messenger office will be closed for annual vacation July 1-7.  There will be no paper on July 8th.

Fireworks Prohibited in Manor

Just a reminder that it is illegal to discharge fireworks in the City of Manor.   Manor Police have notified the paper that they will have zero tolerance over the 4th of July weekend.

New sidewalk construction underway

Construction began last week on Manor’s sidewalk project that will run along Parsons, Burnet, and Carrie Manor streets.  Funding for the project comes from the federal government through a Texas Department of Transportation grant.

Forsythe Brothers Infrastructure was awarded the contract.  Completion is expected around September 1, 2010.

Terry McCoy and Aaron Autry of the Texas Department of Transportation discussed the US 290 tollway improvments at the Chamber of Commerce meeting.

Two people were transported to the hospital after a wreck at SH 130 and Parmer.

Manor’s sales tax revenues resumed a downward slide in June.

Samsung Austin Semiconductor announced a $3.5 billion expansion.

The Barr Mansion’s Artisan Ballroom was destroyed by fire after lighting hit the building.

Capital Metro has begun replacement of the Gilleland Creek bridge near the Rural Center.

Thirty-five young ladies participated in the Manor lady Mustang Volleyball Camp.

The Athletic Booster’s Golf Tournament has been postponed.

The Lady Mustang Softball Camp will run June 21-24.

Reno, Nevada Web Manager uses Manor in video to get free ticket

Kristy Fifelski, Web Services Manager for the City of Reno, Nevada who is trying to win a free ticket to the “Next Generation of Government Summit” in Arlington, Va. used Manor in her appeal to the awards committee.  The humorous video also picks on some of Reno’s efforts in improving its technology.  The two day summit cost $650 per person for government employees.

Among those scheduled to participate in the summit are Manor partners Ben Berkowitz with SeeClickFix, Steve Ressler and Andrew Krzmarzick with GovLoop, and Laurel Reima with O’Reilly Media.
